Recycling Lives Near You

The first Recycling Lives cenre is underway in Kent Street in Preston, Lancashire. Aptly known as ‘RL1’ the centre will be the first in what we hope will total 50 centres across the UK. Already we are learning how to improve the next development to reflect our intended uses.

Applications on behalf of 6 additional authorities in Lancashire are now officially signed off and are being considered, with a further 7 centres earmarked across the Northern Way. Recently, our concept introduction to every local authority across the United Kingdom has been carried out, generating considerable interest in Recycling Lives.

In the UK alone we wish to develop 50 centres the length and breadth of the UK, with plans to also expand into other European countries. Catering for so many Government and Local Authority priorities, we are confident that Recycling Lives will develop rapidly within our controllable and achievable strategy.

Next Generation Recycling Lives

Subsequent developments have adopted an iconic visual elevation and now offer the added advantage of being able to extend the ‘Manual Processing’ element of the building. An improved design has resulted in better use of all available space, and access to more natural light means that all residential, office and retail space now enjoy a more pleasant environment.

Each new centre comprises of:

• Residential: accommodation: ranging from as little as 12 fully functional en-suite rooms to as many as 48 en-suite rooms, depending upon the needs of the individual authority.
• Retail: this is designated for displaying and selling the products manufactured from recycled materials throughout the Recycling Lives network. In addition each centre will offer café facilities and a sandwich bar within the retail environment, in order to encourage integration with the local community and also to provide additional vocational activities to residents
• Manual Processing: is incorporated into the main design of the building; but as a separate unit that can be extended without the need to extend the more costly residential space. This solution permits a larger footprint for processing materials onsite subject to the overall size of the site allocated to the development. Due to the fact that RL centres perform differing activities to each other within a region, this more tailored construction assists our overall strategy.
• Office: Each centre contains considerable square metres of office space for use by Recycling Lives and Residents; in addition to additional activities to be carried out such a Call Centre development and Regional Training.
• Incubator Units: At least one floor of the centre is dedicated to encouraging local entrepreneurs into business and to educate the benefits of Social Enterprise involvement.

We intend to commence the construction of a new generation RL centre in 2008.
